Default Help me jet my Zilla!!!

Need to know where to start at. Brand new 88+ cylinder on stck bore...obviously....no airbox lid, boyesson power reeds, uni airfilter, fmf pipe and silencer, and stock carb. I bought the bike as a basket case and have never heard it run. Bought a stock carb off ebay with no jets at all. Anybody know what jets i should start out with, with the way i described it being set up. I can tune the bike once i am close but i dont even know where to start right now. Any sugestions would be greatly usefull. Thanks in advance.

I see your in florida Is this where you ride? Elevation and air temp will change jetting. temps above 77 I would suggest a #400 main and a number 30 pilot jet. Jet needle set to the second clip and air screw out 1 1/2. For air temps below 77 a #420 main and run the needle at the 3rd clip the pilot jet remains a 30 hope that helps.

Default Help me jet my Zilla!!!

I've got a 380 main in mine here a "below-sea" level. The clip, dang, I can't remember..........I think it's all the way up in the top notch.

Rooster, mine came with a 420 but it was too blubbery. I think I need to check the taper of my needle, though. Know anything about this?

Too many variables for us to tune this via the net. Temp, elevation, mods, etc, etc.

Ok rooster I am going to take your advice here. When dealing with the needle and you say 3rd clip, am I counting from the top or from the bottom. Also wanted to know if using a 30 pilot would be ok or should I go with the 25. Only reason is that I had a 30 laying around. Lemme know and thanks for the help.

Zilla pheen, Heys its rooster my other account was suspended for talking about selling one of my zillas. The 30 pilot jet should be fine. The stock pilot jet in the 88 to 90 was a 22.5 in the 87 it was a 30. But the 30 should be fine. The jetting on the 87 jug's is completly different from 88 thru 90. Start at the 400 it will probably be a bit rich but I would rather start rich than lean. You should pick up a 350 360 380 400 mains they should only be 2 bucks each. start with the 400 for some break in time on your new piston you can see how shes running. If its to rich go to the 380 and check it the stock main on 88 to 90 was a 350. On the 87 it was a 420. Just remember its going to run better the leaner you go. but getting to lean can be dangerous. I would always rather foul a plug than melt a piston. But you will be very safe starting with the 400 if you have any more problems give a shout.

Ok, I put a 30 pilot and a 40 main to start with. I know the one screw with the big spring on the carg is for the idle ajust. But that little screw with the flathead where should I start this at. I turned it 1 1/2 out. Know all i need is a water pump impeller bolt and then I can try and start her for the first time. Just waiting on ronnies to send it. Thanks again for the help.
