intermitent no spark
#1
I just bought a ds 90 for my daughter, and after riding it for a day it just quit.
I checked all the connections and used my multi meter to check the stator and wiring, everything looks good. I put it all back together and tried it and it started but only ran for about 10 sec then no spark again, so I left it for awhile and tried it again and it started but stalled and then back to square one. would a cdi do this? I thought once they went its over.
thanks for any help.

perhaps the plug is fowled badly, if so the spark will be week and intermitent. sometimes even cleaning a badly fowled plug will not help, try a new one. you can hold the plug against the case to ground it adn visualy check spark, then plug a new one in and see if its looks stronger.
old or bad gas can cause the plug to fowl almost immediate, so if a new plug gets fowled right away try draining the tank and using fresh gas and a new plug.
these are just little easy things to rule out. one time I bought a can of gas from a local station that was no good and I spent an hour troubleshooting before I figured it out.

I forgot to mention the plug is new and clean and if I hold it to the case I still get no spark. It also looks like it has a new ignition coil and key switch so I am assuming this has been a ongoing problem.
Another thing is the battery is stone dead, I have tried to boost it, but should this matter if I am kickstarting it.
This thing is driving me nuts.
thanks

check the wires where they go into the stator cover............Ohm them out, then wiggle the wires with the ohm meter attached...........I have owned 3 bikes now that ALL went bad in that area.....same spark prob as yours .......! and ohm out the plug wire to make sure you boot has a good connection!
ALSO check the wires at the start switch.........could be coming loose!

I repaired the wires............cut back the coating......slid some "shrink tubing" (can get the best price at radio shack) over the seperate wires, and soldered them together. then I took the shrink tubing slid it over the sloder connection, shrunk the tubing, and good to go!
About $1.50 max..........
