Default How long do ATV batteries last?

We bought 2 Suzuki Ozarks last year.

I noticed at the Suzuki dealer that replacement batteries are fairly pricey for these things. How long can I expect my batteries to last on the quad before they need replacing? We ride at least once/month. Hopefully the battery will last longer than my riding lawn mower battery which goes bad after only about 2 years.

Anyone have the original battery on their quad after 5 years?

Are there any cheaper aftermarket batteries for quads?

Thanks

Mine seem to average between 3-4 years. Walmart has inexpensive replacements for most models.

Hold up.......I can speak from a ton of experience on this..........DO NOT get the walmart batteries...The lead plates are not welded together good enough and in rough conditions they will seperate (battery is junk at that point). IF "Curls" had good luck with them; he got lucky..

You can get good quality and cheaper price of batteries on E-bay, The Yamaha dealer here wanted almost $100.00 for one, I found the same ones on E-bay for $50.00,, The batteries out here in this heat, only last a year or two at the most,,, Your mileage may vary,,

I agree with curls post.

Mine lasted 5 years and I now got a top of the line AGM battery.
You can get a GEL if in warmer climates.

I highly recommend them.

Look for an AGM (absorbed glass matt) or a GEL battery. East Penn batteries are hard to beat in price and performance. Use their dealer locator to find a retailer close to you. Just a side note. the guys I get them from aren't in the dealer locator. You might try calling automotive electrical repair places. East Penn makes batteries for several other manufacturers as well. Oh ya, when you buy from them, the money is going to another fine US company.

I just replaced the battery in my Forman (1998) this summer, so it was 7 years old, typically they need to be replaced after 5 years. My opinion is to get a factory battery from the dealer or a better aftermarket replacement. If you go cheap you'll be stuck in the woods with a piece of crap bad battery. I figure if the factory battery held up to frequent winching and cold weather riding for 7 years, then its well worth the $100 for the same quality for another 7 years. Thats less then $20 a year for trouble free service.

"interstate" batteries have been recommended to me by my local ATV repair guy.

It is not age that determines life of the battery...its maintanence and amount of use
machines that are used quite frequently(more than once a week)tend to have batteries last much longer despite bieng used so much more...if your machines set for any extended period of time buy a battery tender which will shut of and maintain peak voltage for worryfree starting first time out of the garage

as far as quality of batteries go for a Yuasa or a Deka
I just replaced the stock Yuasa on my 01 400ex
