Default 2004 400 - 89 miles and DEAD

Well Im not happy with my cat . Today it refused to start except for an attempt to idle with full choke. Everything points to a clogged main jet. I went to look at the fuel filter but the factory didnt install one, how cheap.

Should I pull down the carb or drag it to the shop and try to fight it out ( repair bill)??? Im affraid if I pull it down and find something realy stupid ( plastic / metal shavings from production) I would not stand a chance of getting it covered . I know the warranty is out but has anyone had any luck with stuff like this on a bike with such low miles?

From what I have seen not too many wheelers/ bikes use filters. It should be filtered in the tank on the petcock.

Is it new off the dealer's floor or used and been sitting in someones garage? With something with this few miles I would suspect bad gas, either wet or stale or both. May not be dirt at all. Need more info.

Well I pulled it out today( easiest carb to pull on any bike I ever played with) and yep it was dirt in a jet and the seat for the float.
Runs great, now time to jet it and slap a muffler on it.

You can definitely find a lot of junk almost any of the gas sold at the pumps. I filter my fuel through a paper and ceramic filter via a hand pump prior to putting it in my machine to keep just such a problem from occuring. Especially when you are miles from the shop to repair it!

Glad to hear you got it fixed.
