OK heres the scoop...i have a bayou 220 .(2001) and yea i know its nothing much but its been through alot with the way i ride it and it still has a heartbeat.....although its got an annoying knocking noise comin from the head followed by some blue smoke...I have a feelin it has something to do with the valves or something but i don't even know how to get them out or what to look for to see if they are bad...now im not the greatest at this engine work but if i get some directions for the lovely people on this site i might just have her back on the trails.....if someone can direct me by giving me pics or steps or even if that is the problem and if it is how to fix it.
thanks
mike

Is it more of a light clicking sound, and increases with the revs...and is always there? Or is it a heavier knock...and goes away when warmed up?
Dont appoligize for what you ride....you should see some of the ones i ride. All thats important, is that you DO ride.

Sounds like it could be loose clearance on the valves. Not a biggie to fix. Probably wont do a thing for the oil burning though.
Your best bet, is to look on ebay for a service manual, either a clymers or the factory one. Or if you live near a fairly large city, the public library will probably have it . Ask the local librarian if they can find a copy for you to borrow. They are in the 629.2 section of non fiction.
Basicly you line up a timing mark,on the correct TDC... remove the covers over the valves, and using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance . On the end of the rocker arm, theres a nut and screw, loosen the nut, adjust the screw to get the proper clearance, and snug up the nut. Then just put things back together. If you can change a spark plug...you will be able to do this adjustment.
Im not sure what the tolerance of the clearance is...but the service manual spells out the clearance and the exact procedure for that motor.
