I HAVE A 2000 RANCHER 2WD ES AND IT WILL NOT DOWN SHIFT WITH THE ELECTRIC SHIFTER OR THE FOOT SHIFTER IN THE TOOLBOX, I HAVE ROCKED IT BACK AND FORTH, JUMPED UP AND DOWN, AND DONE EVERYTHING I CAN THINK OF BUT IT WILL NOT DOWNSHIFT, IT WILL HOWEVER UPSHIFT LIKE NORMAL, RIGHT NOW IT IS SITTING IN THE GARAGE STUCK IN FOURTH GEAR. PLEASE HELP!!

I remember reading that when the 450ES first came out, some of them had the same problem. When you got to 5th gear, it wouldn't downshift. You had to turn the key off, then restart the motor, which would reset the electronic shifting.

There are two sensors on the motor. Disconnect them both & clean them. If you have been in the water use some dielectric grease & reattach the two sensors. If this doesn't work, try cleaning your up & down shift button assebly.

Otherwise you need to take it to the dealer.

Quadfather,
That might just be a good idea except for the fact that the Rancher will not start in gear, Remember? It is stuck in fourth gear and will not downshift so I can't get it to neutral.
