A month or so ago, some posted a message here with a list list of VIN number of ranchers that couldn't be sold by dealers or that needed to be recalled so for some problem or other. Well we took the VIN number list and her machine was on the list, but to this date she hasn't heard word one from Honda and the local dealer isn't talking. What is the deal? Is Honda hiding something, is there a fix for this unknown problem or is this recall thing just another internet hoax? Enquiring minds want to know. Thanks to all or anyone that knows anything.

Do you believe everything your here? If your that worried go inspect your quads a-arms and other welded areas for stress cracks or no welds at all.
You'll learn to take things with a grain of Salt on these forums, a lot of people don't know the top from the bottom on here I swear. Then we wonder why atver's on under assualt by special interest groups? Not ripping you, but use common sense when inspecting it, or find someone who knows what to look for, Then have fun and stop worring about it.

That post was mine. I got those VIN numbers and the entire text of that post as a printout that my dealer gave me when I asked them about the recall. Mine is on that list too. I have not received anything from Honda and I have not heard of anyone getting anything. Since my quad is on there and my dealer has the kits to fix it, I will be taking it in. My post was not bad info...

According to people I've talked to at different dealerships Honda is sending out recall notices to all Ranchers involved. It is not a major problem that will prevent you from riding your rancher. I wouldn't do any heavy jumping with it until the braces is installed. The biggest problem the dealerships are having right now is getting a good supply of the parts in. I've set up a appointment with my dealer so when he gets the parts in for my rancher he will give me a call.

i received my recall notice yesterday. the recall involves ALL 2000 and some 2001 model year ranchers. It says that only 1% of the recalled vehicles actually do have the improper welds in the a-arm brackets. Mine is going in thursday to get it fixed. If you don't know where the place is to check it yourself i wouldn't recommend riding it too hard until it's fixed.. If you think this is an internet hoax. i'll be glad to scan it and send it to you. later

I did not receive any notice from Honda yet. I just called my dealer and asked about the recall. He said "yup, there is a recall, bring them in" He didn't ask about serial numbers, just installed the brackets.

My dealer is aware of the recall, but are having trouble getting the parts from Honda. I just received my recall notice from Honda Monday, 11/6.
It's best to keep in touch with your dealer and get on their repair list.

Honda announces recall of all terrain vehicles
Here it is. Rancher and 400EX recall.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TORRANCE, CA - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), American Honda Motor Co., Inc., is voluntarily recalling approximately 126,000 All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). Two models of Honda ATVs are being recalled for separate problems, both of which could result in riders losing control of the ATVs, crashing and suffering severe injuries or death.

Honda Rancher TRX350 ATVs

A mounting bracket on the front suspension of the Honda Rancher TRX350 models could be welded improperly to the frame. If this mounting bracket breaks, the vehicle could lose steering control and crash. Honda has received 98 reports of improper welds. No injuries or incidents have been reported.

These ATVs are red, orange or olive green. "Honda Rancher" is written on the sides of the ATV's fuel tank. The following chart lists the Honda TRX350 models, years and Vehicle Identification Number ranges. The VIN can be found on a bracket behind the front bumper.

2000 TRX350TM Rancher 478TE240*YA000001 to 478TE240*YA006853

2001 TRX350TM Rancher 478TE240*1A100001 to 478TE240*1A106180

2000 TRX350TE Rancher ES 478TE244*YA000001 to 478TE244*YA014053

2001 TRX350FE Rancher 4 x 4 ES 478TE244*1A100001 to 478TE254*1A110680

Honda TRX400EX ATVs

The brake pads on these the Honda TRX400EX models could have been assembled incorrectly. This can cause the brakes to fail, resulting in severe injury or death. Honda has received 53 reports of the brake pads assembled incorrectly on these ATVs, resulting in two consumers suffering injuries, including a sprained wrist and bruising.

These ATVs are red or yellow, and their model name, "400EX" appears on both sides of the fuel tank. The following chart lists the Honda TRX400EX model ATVs, years and Vehicle Identification Numbers ranges. The VIN can be found on the front-left-side frame down tube.

2000 TRX400EX 478TE230*Y4000001 to 478TE230*Y4028370

2000 TRX400EX 478TE232*Y4000001 to 478TE232*Y4001140

2001 TRX400EX 478TE230*14100001 to 478TE230*14103720

2001 TRX400EX 478TE230*14100001 to 478TE232*14100600

Honda ATV dealers nationwide sold both models of these ATVs from July 1999 through September 2000 for between $4,000 and $6,000.

Consumers should stop using these ATVs immediately, and call their local Honda ATV dealer to schedule a free inspection, and repair if needed. To locate their local dealer or for more information, consumers should call American Honda at 888-289-8226 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or access the company's web site at: http://www.hondamotorcycle.com/locator/.

Registered owners of the vehicles have been notified directly by American Honda about the recall.
