I have a 04 rancher at that wont shift out of first gear. The esp blinks 6 times and doesnt work at all. I have looked at other post and they say that code is a fail safe relay circuit. I have another rancher that I swapped parts with and now they are both doing it. I have swapped the tcm and a sensor on the side if the transmission it has three wires going to it thanks

 

I had the exact same probem with my recon, now i wish i would have got the recon with a footshifter,i took my recon to the atv machanic he said it almost always happens with the esp models like the recons,ranchers and foremans he said the angle sensor went bad.

 

I dont think it is the angle sensor. I called my local honda dealer and they said it was the ecm which is on a recall that has not been performed yet. i would like to reset the computer, they said that it would work for a while. thanks

 

hey there hines. i have the same bike same year . and was haveing the same problem like 3weeks ago. let me ask u a ? when the dash is blinking does it blink 3 times then stops fora sec and then blinks 3 times agan . if so its ur throttle sensor, its the black sesor onthe left sid of the carb and it has a wire pack connected to it how is discoverd it was when i took it off to adjust my vavles on day i must have put it on wrong and it casued that problem . after talking with a few of the guys in the forum they gave me the idea on what it was and thats what i was . so id check that out cause it might be bad .

 

Thanks for the info but my esp light blinks 6 times in a row then pauses and starts blinking again. I quess I will wait to see what the dealer says when I take it in for the recall. Thanks again
