Seeing you live up in Washington....I would go with a good synthetic. I was using Shell Rotella T 15w-40 in my son's TRX90 but switched it to Amsoil 0w-40 synthetic that is formulated for atv's and snowmobiles. It's JASO MA rated for wet clutch applications and being it's synthetic, it has a higher flash point than regular oil and a lower pour point...down to -65 degrees. The higher flash point means it won't burn as quick as "dino" oil. Synthetics are also more shear stable....something that is needed in a shared sump engine.
It's expensive...9 bucks a quart but oil is the life blood of your atv.
If you want to buy locally at walmart...Shell Rotella T synthetic in 5w-40 would be a great choice or the regular Shell Rotella oil.
For the record, my girlfriend's 04 Bruin was burning oil on start-up due to worn valve guide/seals. I am happy to report that the Amsoil stopped that from happening.
Just make sure that whatever oil you buy does not have "Energy Conserving" stamped in the circle on back of the container.

The 150 will be fine with just about any ones 10-30 or 10-40. I use 10w-30 valvoline in my wifes yamoto 150. The 150 uses a cvt and so it doesnt have a wet clutch inside of it. And yes you definitely want to change the oil before even starting it up. I would wait until you get a few hours on the quad before switching to synthetics if thats what you wanted to use.
