yep, thats an 87 and it looks mint. in 87 they also put the ATC250R light on it, in addition to the white plastic and keyed ignition.

the '87 200x was the last trike standing in the US. i saw it/sat on it at the dealer (looks excellent in person) and remember reading about it in the mags as the last one standing (before the mags started hyping stuff and printing erronoues tests). i used to have the brochure! should have kept it...

they did base a prototype quad on the 200X engine in the late 80s early 90's and i think even sold it in mexico but it never was sold in the US.

though, i heard a rumor that there was an 1987 ATC250r sold somewhere other than the US. no one has scanned a brochure or anything yet...there was also a rumor of a TRX500R to compete with quadzilla- i know they printed brochures for it for dealers but i havent found one yet. they pulled the plug on it in 88/89 or 90. too many lawsuits over everything else, honda just jumped out of the sport market until 92 with the re-intro of the 250X..then later changed it to 300EX....then in 98 came out with the 99 400EX...and thus the OEMS started waking up and making new sport machines again.

I believe the 1987 Honda TRX200SX (Fourtrax SX) was based on the 200x engine.

I believe the 1987 Honda TRX200SX (Fourtrax SX) was based on the 200x engine.
in some respects it was... but the quad im talking about had near identical timing, etc as the 200X trike. it was like a quad version of the 200X not the beginner SX bike...i dont doubt what you say about the SX (but thought the timing and internal components or bore or stroke was different???)

I remember something to that effect but never sold the bike im speaking about in the US.

An 86 200X had the same headlight as an 87. I do know about the quad you are talking about. Its kinda funny looking IMO. I had never heard of a TRX500r, though there were plans of a ATC500r. There are even part numbers for the honda repair manual and such for it. None ever made it to the floors or were actually finished being produced if memory serves correctly.
