Default 400 ex won't go into neutral

Guys,

I have a new honda 05 400ex. It is 1 month old. I can't get into neutral. Is there a simple trick to get it to back into normal working mode? It is under warranty. But I would rather not have to drag it down to the dealership where I bought it which is 2 hours away.

Has it always done that or is this something new? My 04 400ex always gives me probs when I put it in neutral. I have to put it in 1st and gentley tap it up into nuetral or from 2nd gentley tap it down to nuetral. That seems to work for me of course when It was brand new it would take me forever to get it into nuetral but now its easier I can usually get it in on the first tap lol.

if it's under factory 6 month warranty, any honda dealership can work on it. you don't have to take it back to where you bought it.

as for neutral, sometimes it's hard on the hondas to find. try blipping the throttle as you shift it. that does the trick for me on both the 300ex and 400ex. can you get it into neutral while the bike is not running?

Adjust the clutch, that is all. My 05 did the same thing. I just got mine last weekend and it was doing the same thing. The clutch just has too much play. Mine was so bad that I couldn't even get it in reverse. The clutch just wasn't engaging enough.

Did you guys have the recall done. The reverse switch needs a different spring because sometimes in engages when it is not sopposed to and probley would not let it shift correctly.

The recall doesn't require a different spring. What is done is a spacer is installed between the clutch cover and the spring on the reverse stopper shaft. Not having the recall done will not make your machine shift hard. The only thing that will could happen if the recall is not done, is the spring on the reverse stopper shaft could become dislodged. When that happens, you would be able to shift into reverse w/out having to turn the reverse **** on the fender. It would be very easy to put the machine into reverse when not wanted. And if that happens when your still moving forward, the rear wheels could lock up and thats never a good thing for rider or machine.
