Default Battery Questions/Problem w/ SUNL 90

Purchased a SUNL 90 for my sone for Xmas. He loves it, but I'm having starting problems. It was fine and then one day, it wouldn't start. I jumped it and all was well. But as soon as you turn it off, it's done. I've also noticed that the head lights aren't working. Any suggestions/ideas?

1. How does the battery recharge itself on these things? (Is there an alternator like on a car)
2. Could it be a fuse?
3. I tried jumping it and letting it run for 30 minutes .. still the same - shut it off and it will not restart.
4. Should I be adding water to the battery this soon?
5. Should I just try another battery or trickle charge this one?
6. Does the alarm have anything to do with it? When it was purchased, I was told that excessive use of the remote start would kill the battery (we've used the remote start once).
7. A manual - where can I get a manual for the bike (lost mine already) and directions for use of the remote start/alarm.

Quite a few questions, but I am new to the ATV life. Gave up the pocket bike after one year

Default Battery Questions/Problem w/ SUNL 90

I've had this same problem with our 90 but not the 50. I looked all over for a replacement but couldn't find one small enough to fit in that little box. Some said the chargers that come with it were junk, so I bought a new small 2 amp charger, that didn't help either.

A few days ago I found a battery for $28 that fit at a store in Houston called Batteries+. It is the proper size, has the right connections, is sealed up, but not gel filled. They have a web page, but you have to find batteries by make of the ATV and of course Sunl isn't listed.
www.batteriesplus.com

So far it is holding it's charge and starting, although it still seems like the started is overloaded by the 90 engine. It seems to always struggle a bit.

I'll add to this thread in a few days and give an update and add the model#.

The battery I got says Xtreme sealed AGM (absorbed glass mat), XTAX5L-BS on it, and it's definately holding it's charge. My problem is solved.

kazooooma , if spent $30 more for a battery tender you'll never have a battery problem again

Default Battery Questions/Problem w/ SUNL 90

As I said in my previous post, I did buy a small charger, that did not solve my problems. I feel like if I fully charge it one day, it should start the next. I don't want to have to put it on the charger every day, and I don't think I should have to.

Kazooooma,

I agree with you. You should not have to charge your battery all the time. That's what your quads charging system is for. We have had our quad for over six months now, and it still has the Chinese battery in it. The battery hasn't needed a charge yet. There have been times when we would not ride for a couple of months, and my DRZ and our TTR batteries would always fire the bikes right up with no problems. Charging your batteries to much can do more harm than good. The best thing to do is if the quad has been inactive for a while, the day before you go riding check your batteries charge. Charge the battery if needed. If you use the quad daily, then it should not need a charge. Now I can see needing a battery tender or float charger if you have a problem with battery drain, from lets say an alarm with the remote kill switch attached to the quad. Or the quad has being sitting for a long time.

SB.
