That depends on what type. You can use anything that meets the required lubricating properties API specification. I know Amsoil makes an oil that will work. Look at the certifications and the API rating and you should be able to find something compatable.

I have a 2000 model (Scrambler) and the trans takes (PPS) Polaris Premium Synthetic gear case oil (weight?).
Not sure if this is the same as AGL fluid.

BBScrambler said You can use Amsoil Series 2000 Chain case lube. It works as a substitute to the Polaris AGL fluid.

It doesn't specify the AGL fluid (like my sp700) but its still not Auto Trans fluid such as used in cars.

A lot of different fluids (auto trans to 80w90 gear lube) have been used in the trans' buy others saying they had no problems. (used with their sleds, model "X" atv etc...)
I'm not so sure myself.

I know I won't stray from the (PPD) Polaris Premium Demand Drive (Synthetic) fluid in the front Differential on my sp700.

Last summer i used 80w- 90 gear oil. but i was just trying to make sure there wasnt going to be any effects in the long run.... like pre mature wear or anything like that. it seemed to have run fine with the gear oil in it. no problems.

That gear lube seams to be a lot thicker than the polaris PPS.

90 weight WILL wear out the trans chain. You can use 90 weight in 1992 and older gearboxes but never in the newer ones.

A good synthetic motor oil will work as good or better than the Polaris oil.

I reccomend Castrol Syntec 5w50.
