Waking up an LT50
#1
Hello all
My boys lt50 has no restrictors in the intake or exhaust. It does still have both pilot jets in place and a 57.5 main jet. It runs ok but is DOWN on power and will not rev out at the top end.
Do i need to mod the exhaust and airbox at all.
I don,t expect it to be a screamer but my 5 year old was getting frustrated with being lapped at the practise track!!
Thanks a lot

I just put the CT Pipe kit on my son's LT50 with 75 main jet. The kit comes with an expansion chamber pipe with silencer, high compression head, K&N filter with outer wear and a selection of jets (65, 70, 75, 80). This little thing screams now! We just got back from an ATV camping trip and everybody in the campground was calling him "The Mosquito." The bike is much louder than before but it is not obnoxious. I clocked him at 24 mph with my Prairie 400! I highly recommend the kit even though it is a bit pricey ($499.00). Many people have said to remove the oil injection and run pre-mix. After this past weekend, I think I will do that because it is obvious now that the oil injection system runs too rich, oil wise. Even running Bel-Ray Synthetic, we had quite a bit of oil residue around the exhaust outlet. I'll start running Castrol 927 after that conversion at 32:1. If you don't want to purchase CT's head, there are a number of people that have posted taking your stock head to a local machine shop and having it milled. You can save some money by purchasing their pipe and then finding the air cleaner and jets on your own. One thing about their system is that it also comes with a short aluminum velocity stack that the air cleaner fits on. Eliminates fabricating an adaptor out of your old air cleaner. Check this board for the correct numbers on milling the head (I believe they have milled .040 off). I went with CT's head so I would always have the stock head to revert to when my 2 year old is ready for the LT50. Good luck and get ready to watch your boy S-M-I-L-E BIG! BTW, they offer a spark arrestor for the silencer if you need one. It was also a bit pricey ($45.00) considering it was nothing more than a pre-formed stainless steel screen that fit under the end cap. I had to have a spark arrestor to ride at the park we go to here in Florida. Now that I know what it is, I would have experimented on my own before coughing up that kind of money for $.35 worth of stainless steel screen. JMO.
