Default Please help! Arctic Cat 400 problems

Ok, I do not know what to do. My dealer hasnt been able to help me, and I know I have a problem.

First of all, I bought an Arctic Cat 400, 2004 new in box. They (the dealer) filled with the liquids and I drove off. It was my first atv so I didnt know too much about it on how it ran, but I thought it lacked power and seemed to be geared too low. But, I thought that is how it was.

My brother has the '03 375 (which has the same engine, carb, etc.) He got on it and said there was something wrong because it lacked power, and seemed to bog up when under load. I noticed that my atv would almost stall if I was in a little bit of mud, or going up a hill. I thought this was odd. We then hooked up the 2 and tried to pull each other, and his back wheels would peel out in the gravel, and mine would just about die (bogging down the whole way). Also, it dropps in speed considerably when going up slight hills (in comparison to my brothers same model, previous year). Also, I can not get the machine to go above 40 mph on flat land. Seems odd to me. It has 300 miles total on it.

Also, on the trails, my atv would use just about 2X's the amount of fuel his did running the same trails.

We started with the carb because we thought it was running too rich. It seemed to be fine. Also, we checked how tight the belt was, and it was fine also. We even swapped carbs and mine continued to bog up, and run rich.

I do not know where to go from here. Someone mentioned something about the valve clearance, but he didnt know too much about it.

The reason I say the dealer wont help me out is because he seems to think that it runs ok (after bringing it back to replace the clutch because of the bolt that fell out and caused some serious knocking) and also because there is a knocking when I lightly brake while going downhill with light bumps. I have brought it to him at least 3 times telling him that I know something is not right in the performance of the machine.

I am wondering if anybody could help me out with some info on this subject, or if they have come across this before.

Thanks for your time,

joe

Take both yours and your brothers in and say see it isn't right. Make him start up one on the show room floor and drive it compared to yours. If it is not right, then he is obligated to fix the damn thing. If nothing else contact Arctic Cat at:

Arctic Cat Phone numbers and E-mail

1-218-681-4999 or 1-218-681-9799, one of the numbers only works once in a while. The other will work all the time but I forgot which is which. The email is: consumeraffairs@arcticcatinc.com . I would email them and tell them the whole story of your problems.

I shopped around a bit until I found the number one dealer in sales and service in my state (Washington) and have had every problem (very few and at no expense to me) dealt with without having to contact AC. A good dealer is worth his weight in gold to you and you don't have to use the dealer you bought it from for service.

PS: It sounds like your dealer is not only a poor business man but a liar to boot.

I agree with Bear, you need a difrferent dealer and contact Arctic Cat about your dealers lack of effort in solving your problem. I know that when I worked for An Arctic Cat dealer we would have never treated a customer that way.

Check to make sure that it doesn't have too much engine oil in it. Having too much in it will cause a loss of power especially when it gets warm. Something to check...........
