Honda 250 quad hard to shift
#1
My father bought a new TRX 250 quad for the farm last fall. I have a 1985 trx 250 that he had been using for years and had no problems shifting it. This new quad he is constantly complaining its so "hard" to shift gears. I bought him an after market shifter so that you can push down with your heal etc. also. But still doesn't shift that great as it takes a lot of force etc.
This new honda has turned out to be kind of a dissapointment. It gets used daily to feed horses and hasn't improved any since he bought it.
Is there an adjustment or something on this thing or is it just the way it is?

Which 250??? The Recon I presume??? If it's new, it is under warranty so you should take it to the dealer and insist that it gets properly adjusted or replaced.
I have had a bunch of autoclutch Honda's, and not a single shifting problem with any of them. If the is having a serious problem, it is a fluke.

Well I believe its just the plain old honda fourtrax TRX 250 TM as its a manual shift. He could have gotten the electric shift model also. But like I said my old TRX250 has worked good for 20 years so we thought why not just get the same model again.
It turns much sharper, has way better suspension and works fine other than this shifting issue! In the winter with winter boots on he had to bend down and just use his hand to pull the shifter up etc. Its not like he drives it down a trails etc. He pulls a little wagon around the farm hauling little square bales of hay here and there to horse pens. So he quite often has to be shifting from foward to reverse etc. Which he has for done for 18 years with the old 250 fourtrax with no issues
I wish he would have drove it around at the dealer first. But we both figured it would be just like the old honda etc.
