Default Carb won't stop draining, wasting gas!

Hello all!

I just bought a 1999 Honda Foreman 4x4 with the 450 engine tonight. The only problem we observed is that it keeps leaking gas out the float bowl line that comes out of the very BOTTOM of the carb. I have it pinched off at the moment.. but I was wondering how to make it stop???!!

Is this going to have to go to the dealer or is it something someone who is handy with tools can do? I have already had it most of the way apart, but the gold screws that hold the bowl on to the carb housing are so small and brass I am afraid of stripping them!

Thanks!!

Martin

probably need to adjust your float valve a little. or maybe some dirt stuck in there. don't worry if you strip those screws, just replace them with hex bolts. those screws get stripped after you remove them a couple of times.

i would not have pinched that line off. Just turn the gas of on the fuel valve on the tank, or pinch the line coming from the tank to the carb. The way you did it will make the gas overflow and pour into the intake and into the oil.

I had mine stuck on the 400EX the other day. The float was in adjustment, so I knew is had to be something suck under the needle. I took it out to the hills and launched it off some huge jumps. The landing impact freed it up real quick!

assuming the drain screw is all the way in (closed)....you may have to take the bottom off the carb and make sure the metal tab on the float that closes the needle vavle is not bent down....should be able to shut the flow off whe the float rises a little..

Today I took the carb completely out and cleaned out every hole I could find.. Disconnected everything! I also took out 3 of the 4 screws that hold the 2 halves of the carb together. 1 woud ABSOLUTELY NOT come out!! I tried drilling it, but even that didn't work. So I put it together and rode it some. I am going also to get some carb cleaner and see if that helps.
