Still about the Rancher recall
#1
Hello Rancher's fans
I'm posting this message from Portugal/Europe. I have a 00 Rancher and I've just received a recall notice from HONDA MOTOR PORTUGAL. The notice say's that the recall is about repairing the welding of both top A-arm and replacing the command shaft on the gearbox.
All the messages about the recall that I've read in this forum didn't mentioned this problem on the gearbox, but many rancher's owners complain about de ES shift. Perhaps all your shifting problems are the result of this malfunction part. BE ALERT!!!!!!!

I haven't hear about a gearbox recall. Not to slam people but many of the problems on these forums are induced by the riders & therefore are not manufacturer type problems. If we abuse our quads then you pay the price sooner or later.

could this so called gearbox problem be where the front driveshaft comes out of the engine? I was looking over mine one day and noticed this spot that was all shiny (right at the end of the shaft)It hasn't caused any problems but it does look like it's rubbing on something. Maybe all ya other rancher owners can check this out and let me know if you see the same thing.

To Y2KRancher
I don't know witch is the bad part on the gearbox. I'm going to take my bike to my dealer next Saturday, after I'll let you Know.
In the letter I've received, they say that the command shaft can bent, making it impossible to shift, using both ES or the manual lever.
I do agree with Snowshark wen he says that many problems result of the improper use of the quads by their owners, but the Rancher must really have a problem in the gearbox, or else they wouldn't repair it.
See you soon,

Recent news
I've just talked to my dealer and he said about the A-arms that there are tree solutions to the problem, depending on the damage.
1- Welding the top A-arms to the frame
2- Mounting reinforcements on the top A-arms
3- Mounting a new frame
No news about the gearbox.
