Ok those of you who read dirt wheels know why i am posting this. Is a 330 kit really faster than a 400ex? i was thinking of trading mine on a 400 but if i can get the same power out of something for only about 3-400 bucks im gonna do that. those of you who have em let me know. HP....races against 400ex's, banshees, etc how does it compare?

If you are serious about wanting too have a fast motor. Give any four stroke engine builder a call and explain your situation. They will be glad too help you out.

First of all the modifications that they did amounted to somewhere around $1500 not 300 or 400 and you would need all those mods to keep up with the 400ex

I was thinking about calling TC racing, I have heard nothing but good things about them, does anyone have a phone number for me? Also if you notice in the article the most part of the cost of their 330ex was cosmetic stuff, all maier plastic, tires/wheels, bumpers, etc. I dont think i will need racing plastic or a new front bumper to keep up with a 400

TC Racing (814)723-3514 (no website)

There are several options you have when building an engine. But how fast can you afford too go?

TC sells a kit for the 300EX the consists of Wiseco high compression piston(stock bore-pump or race gas), CDI mods(rev limiter, ingition timing), camshaft(with core charge), and valve springs for $400 bucks.
For someone that already has an aftermarket exhaust system. This kit will really "wake up" the little 282cc 4-stroker.
This is the "base" engine that I started with from TC. With stock gearing, it allowed me too "keep up with 400's" everywhere but top end.

TC's 330 kit consist of new sleeve, 80mm piston, gaskets, rings, and circlip for $295 dollars. This kit, installed with the one above makes for a very strong motor.

Headwork: For about $400 bucks, you can have the head ported and polished, 3 angle valve job, hardened rockers and valve guides installed. This work will insure reliability of your new motor.

Bore your current carb($25), or buy a new one($150), modify your own airbox lid, and add a good twin-wall foam filter. And you will have a 400EX killer.

Other problems.......
When increasing the power, it is now nessesary too increase traction and handling. You will need some new tires, most likely some new shocks, and keep in mind that other parts such as clutch plates, sprockets, and chains also wear out faster.

there is no replacement for displacement. even if you get the 300 to beat the 400 there is still the comparison in handling. The 300 has none, while the 400 has it all.

yea the issue is already out ...... an did you say the 300ex has no handling?!@?!?! In my opinion i think it handles trails a whole lot better than the 400ex. I can beat 400's all day long on tight trails b/c of the handling. I want the 330 kit for mx and riding in fields and stuff.

The 330EX vs 400EX article is in the January DirtWheels. Don't worry.....It's lame. Very short, sweet and too the point. It says what parts they bolted on, what they cost, and that it beat up on a 400EX everywhere they tested. It didn't say where they tested, why they tested, no track times, no speed runs, nothing. LAME!!!!

Everything is relative. No machine is perfect. Both the 300EX and 400EX have pluses and minuses. Too simply say that one is all that, and the other is not, does not hold much weight.
The 300's smaller size, reverse, and no-link rear suspension says that it is made too rule the woods and trails. Where the 400's wider stance, lack of reverse and linkage rear suspension says that is is setup more for MX and faster open riding. Both are very versital and fun too ride. Both can be made into competitive racers. More people start racing on a 400 because you need less money too make it competitive. Pro riders race 250r's. I race a 300.

Ok, now its time for an expert opinion. If the guy likes a 300ex, don't dis his ride. I know several people who have 300exs and they are awesome riders. Maybe this guy is shorter or is just more comfortable on a smaller framed bike. With as many interchangeable parts as there are, maybe you guys are the idiots. Fact: Most 400ex parts are made in US, therefore they are inexpensive. Benefit to us 400ex owners! However, alot of them bolt right onto a 300ex and make it better. By the way, Servicehonda.com sells them even cheaper. Lets say that this guy is serious about racing. He buys a 400ex axle for cheap and its wider in the rear whereas we have to buy a durablue, axcalibur, etc for triple the price. Now he decides that the front could be wider, 400ex a arms are equal to +2 since the 300 frame is wider. Ours cost at least $450 for +2.

Fact#2: A Honda 300ex with a 305 kit, (piston and rings only, bored out) new rockers, a WhiteBros race cam, a full WhiteBros E series pipe/header, rejetted with uni filter will lose on cement by 1-2 bikelengths to middle of 5th gear (then ran out of room) (It cost about $800 for everything) to a stock 400ex. I know, I was on the 400ex and rider weight was the same, so a 330 should be able to beat a 400ex if done correctly.

Keep your 300ex and fix it up the way you want if you like its size and reverse, otherwise you are wasting your money because it will cost more to make a 300ex equal to a stock 400ex and if a 400exr starts spending money.....
