Default To port or not to port that is the question ? LT80

With the talk about diffrent degrees in the cylinder porting I was wondering if there is any thing like a book or cd rom on how too port.Have they always done it that way.?or is that just from all the years of experience in porting. The reason why I ask is because a guy in my town has been good on two strokes for quite a while and hes built some really fast bikes. Not too sure about him working on lt80s I dont know if he just would open the lt 80 up. If its really much different than working on other 2 strokes then I am not sure about letting him work on it..... If the 80 is another kind of animalwhen it comes to porting. If just opening it up a hair and smoothing it out is the way to go. then Ill doit myself. If its not a good idea let me know.....Or maybey let him work on it By the way this guy has owned a shop for years. i am looking for a quick turnaround thats why i am looking local.... If not good idea then maybey wait till winter and send to jack....

It's not a good idea to open up anything in the ports unless you know what you'r doing. porting on the LT80 will be similar to what your guy has been doing but remember you have a 250 lb bike with an auto trans. Tell him not to go very high with the ports or it'll be a dog off the line. I'd recommend Jack. Why wait till winter. He should be able to get you done and sent back in a week I'd think. I just did a whole motor, crank, porting, machining, pipe, jetting, intake and everything on a bike in 3 days for a friend.

It seems you have an exxcellent understanding that the LT80 is much different than others.
Port timing is just 1/2 of it. There is much work to do in the transfers.
Now the raw fact~~ Even if your buddy gt lucky with the porting, you will pull your teeth out trying to figure the clutchs out. This is why I offer a complete motor and clutch kit that's back to you ready to bolt in and go.
If you feel the need. <G> go ahead and raise the exhaust port .100 (one hundred thousandths). If you do that, shave the head .040
That should be safe.
