LT80 Lightened flywheel
#1
Has anyone lightened an LT80 flywheel? Is it possible? Don't seem like there is a whole lot of meat there to take away from, looks like a lot of magnet weight... Anyone stepped up to a PVL? Is it worth it?
Thanks

I have. It helps some.
I think I took 20 or so grams off it easy enough.
The PVL works great. Faster rev and quicker shut down. Being worth the time and the $400+ you will spend is up to you.
FYI: if you do get a PVL you need to make a spacer for the fan.

2 more questions Jack --
What do you charge to lighten the flywheel?
I have heard different things about a PVL on an LT in regards to the electric start. I heard that the PVL provides no charging coils therefore you will need to maintain your battery by another means. I have also heard the elctric start does not spin the PVL fast enough to fire, therefore you must use a recoil start. Is there truth too any of this ?
Thanks

1) can't answer~~rules..
2) anyone serious enough to get a PVL has scrapped the starter long ago..But you are correct about the charging. I'm not 100% sure the starter wouldn't spin fast enough. I'd have to ask Dane at Penton Imports.
