wierd problem

while riding my 2000 ds this weekend I shut it off and when I went to start it it just turned over real slow then started to click,I figured the battery finally took a crap,we pulled started it and I road about 80 miles I then loaded it up and just for kicks I tryed to start it it did the same thing, I then drove about 2 hours home and when i got home the thing fired right up.
the next day I checked it with a volt meter it was charging just fine I even put the kill switch on and cranked it over the volts only dropped to 10.50 the went right back to 12.
is it possible something inside the battery is shorting out while I ride? it is the original battery .
thanks

My guess would be that the battery is on its way out becuase I was going to say that the ground wire is loose but then it wouldn't start at all the starter relay would just buzz...Thats really odd maybe the battery got too hot I am not too sure about this one but would have to use my knowledge and blame the battery...You said it was running fine and was charging fine so it doesn't sound like the stator or any of that...How is the starter any wires loose?
Those are the only things I could think of besides the wires at the controls being loose but you said you pop started it so I don't think that would do it. Try getting a new battery or using another and if that doesn't help then try the other stuff but I just wanted to give you some options just incase. Good luck.
