03 raptor 660 carb issue
#1
Hi all, I posted about this a couple weeks ago but only to to attacking it earlier today.
Originally I had gas peeing out the overflow tubes of the carbs so I took the carb apart and cleaned it thoroughly. A week later (the next time I went to ride it) same thing happened. I brought it to the Yami dealer and had them rape me to clean the carbs and check it over. It ran great when I got it home then I parked it. Same symptoms happened the next week. Today I pulled the carbs for a 3rd time, cleaned thoroughly, took the gas tank out and cleaned it thoroughly. I re-installed it with a gas line filter and now it doesn't seem to be getting gas. I've verified gas is flowing into the carb but nothing. When I pull the air filter top and spray carb cleaner into the top tubes leading to the carb, it seems to run until I stop spraying. I thought I sprayed all the jets thoroughly so I'm a bit confused. Any suggestions on what specifically in the carb I should attack next would be appreciated. Thank you

dude had the same thing happen to me. first make sure you got clean gas, then remove petcock from the bottom of the tank and clean the screens. then go to your yama dealer and get 2 new float needles and seats. they come together about 20 bucks a peice. remove your carb bowls and floats remove the screw that holds the float seat into the carb remove the old seat and clean behind it with carb clean and a small pipe cleaner. no matter how good yama cleaned it out you wont get the crap behind the float seat out, unless you remove the seat. replace the float seats and valve(lube new oring on seat with clean gas) and put it all together

Also you might want to try cleaning over your reeds, they might have gotten dirty from try to start it so much without it firing.

Q]My bad, i thought they did. How do they regulate are/fuel flow then?
Well its a 4-stoke.. It works just like a car with a carb would...From the Your air and fuel comes though the carb and into the intake valves..The Valves work kinda like the reed would on a 2 stroke..On a 2 stroke the reed regulate the air/fuel...And on a 4 stroke the valve opening and closing with it being in time with the timing chain and cam and crank..All working together in Time..
Hope this helps its the only way i could think how to explain it to ya..

already took the tank out completely and removed petcock and cleaned both screens (BTW it sure makes getting at the carbs easier with the tank out). If you feel confident about the float needles and seats then that's the the next route I'll take. Anyone want to confirm this sounds ok? Thank you

well guys your kinda on the right track. all reeds do is stop crankcase compression from escaping back throught the carb when the piston reaches the bottom of the stroke (on a two stroke the fuel air oil mixture enters the case before the combustion chamber, 4 strokes mixture goes right into the combustion chamber) 2 stroke carbs and 4 stroke carbs work about the same exception to idle and air mixture circuits. for the raptor if there was debris in the tank screens i can almost gurantee you there is crap behind the float needle seat. you can always pull them apart first. float needles regulate the fuel flow into the carbs. if they stick open fuel will come out the overflows. if they stick shut they will not allow the carb to fill with gas... good luck guys
