Check your choke cable it sounds like its binding and not shutting and opening the choke
Plate correctly in the carb.

The cable must be binding, haven't heard of this problem before. It wouldn't hurt to lube the cable a little.

Madmax, Where is Sumner? Where do you guys ride?

400EXDUDE,

I had a similar problem with my Rancher so I took it to the dealer and the choke cable had to be replaced.

I've had the same problem with my Rancher, whenever the temperature would drop below freezing the choke would get stuck. It freezes right @ the carburator connections. This is what I'm not sure about, because it's friend that fixed it. He said since the choke is a plunger type he removed something in the carb. mechanism.
Good Luck Hope this was any help.......
