I was wondering if it was best to replace the air filter or to just clean it. If I should clean what is the best way. Thanks again for all the help. You have really made it easy for me to enter the atv world.

Your airfilter comes apart. Take it apart and clean it all with warm soapy water. I use dish soap. After it dries spray the foam real good with air filter oil. I use Uni air filter oil, like $4 a can, lasts a long time.Put it all back together. Wear rubber gloves if you have them, the oil is a thick sticky mess.

The short answer is when it gets dirty and usually that is determined visually. Some do it after every ride, especially in dusty conditions. I would say 10 hours of run time is long enough.

With any foam it's best not to use any chemicals that are not specified for cleaning foam filters as the odd chemicals can break down the structure of the material and ruin its dirt collecting capability--even if you can't see the difference.
The exception is dish soap (I use Dawn) which is safe on the material and cuts the oil loose from the medium. You may have to wash it several times to be effective.

You don't need to over-oil with the tacky filter oil, that's why using gloves lets you work the oil in without having too much on. Be sure to oil the inner foam on a double foam model.

"working it in" works the oil out of the foam... the idea is to get it dripping blue(literally) with filter oil
