Everything seems normal, cranks right up...push the shifter and it feels like it has shifted, the neutral light even goes off...but it's not in gear...shifter is good and tight, never had any problems before this....anyone know a good starting point of figuring out what the problem might be?

 

Does it go through all the gears with the trike off?

 

It won't change...running or not...

 

If my memory is correct , when you're in neutral you should up shift for 1th through 5th, not down from neutral ; your reverse cable may need adjustment if this is the 87' Honda TRX 250 Big Red ATC ; correct me if i'm wrong ! ...............williebee

 

Well Willie, you're correct but not sure how that has anything to do with my problem. It won't go into gear shifting up or down...shifter moves, but no gear! Just want an idea where to start before tearing into it...

 

your going under the right side case after draining the oil, if your lucky the sping assemby is off your shifter (bottom rear of cranck case) if your not the shift shaft may be broken and that is a HUGE job to change

 

Thanks, we'll try that! We have an old 3 wheeler we kept for parts so hubby said he'll take that one apart first to see how everything is, then check the "good" one [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] We'll probably need some parts out of the old one anyway!

Thanks...I think hubby found what is wrong. The rear axle is stripped...so it was changing gears, but just couldn't go anywhere! I have one ordered, hope it works!
