Sportsman 800 Whining clutch
#1
Sportsman 800 with 16hrs on it. Completely stock. After about 10 minutes of riding getting a clutch whine 3000 - 3400 rpm in high. Longer the ride the louder the whine. Dealer can hear it but cant seem to find anything wrong. Any ideas?

I've seen a post about this same problem before , about 2 or 3 week's ago i think it had a few reply's saying it was normal and wound go away after break in ; have you tryed reducing the idle speed ? Just thinking out loud , i have a 06' AC 400 Auto fis with the suzuki belt driven clutch with only 197 miles and 2 oil change and service , but only does it when i first start it up when cold in gear it whine's a little untill warm up . Doesn't do it when engine is warm or in newtral ; only when cold in gear untill warm up and rpm's reach 1450 to 1500 then whine goes away ! .......................williebee

I dont think this will get any better after break-in. It started when the machine had about 12 hours on it and has gotten progessively worse. And it does it only after the belt/clutches are heated up from use.

Roadstar it's still under warrantee right ? I would take it back to the dealer and tell them to fix it , or give me a new quad ; or at lest a loaner to ride untill they fix your ! I wouldn't wait anylonger and take a chanch it break's down on me out in the middle of nowhere and leave's you stranded ! If you wait to long and the clutch or belt get's smoked , polaris may say it's your faut for waitng to long knowing there was something wrong ! I've heard other's say that polaris has a lifetime warrantee on the belt's , at least a friend of mine had a 93' ploaris sportsman 500 thant his dealer replaced a belt on his in the summer of 2000 free of charge ! .................................hope you get it fixed i know how it feel's when you're left afoot ! ........................williebee
