Sportsman 500 HO NEED HELP
#1
Hi everyone. I just join this forum to ask you guys a question and read more about polaris and other ATVS. So my question is. I have a Sportsman 500HO 2005 w/ 200hours on it. I have change the strap once or twice (can't remmeber) and the maintenance is spot on. Now for the first time, I've been having trouble with it(not bad considering the HUGE amount of abuse it gets). At around 50 MPH the strap starts to let go and the engine revs up to 7000rpm. Usually it goes up to 60MPH and I'm at 6400rpm. My question is, could it be the clutch? I checked the strap this morning and it was fine, I had bought a new one just in case but.
Anyways any taughts comments or ideas on this would be very appreciated
Thanks
Nick

if your refering to the belt then yes it could be clutch problems. if you have already went thru 2 belts something isnt right or maybe your not using low range when your suppose to causing more strain on the belt causing to burn. have you gotton water /mud in the clutches? when you changed the belt did you clean them when you had it apart. start w/ the basics first then see if the clutches are the problem. maybe the buttons are wore out on the secondary.

I changed the belt once because it flipped in the case and destroyed itself into pieces. I have gotten watter in it but I opened the case and cleaned everything inside (not the clutch and everything but what I could see, and yes sometimes I use the High when I should use the low, I think I burnt the clutch? !
