I'd try unplugging electrical components one at a time, and check after each one to see if the current draw stops.

yes, the rectifier/regulator is a good place to start. You could start by pulling fuses one at a time first, that will help narrow it down to which circuit. Look into a manual if you need the wiring diagrams.
