I have a 1000 miles on a Rancher ES. Have had it in about all kinds of weather and temperatures. From deep mud to lake crossings, to rock and log climbing, hunt in the fall..... I have never had any problem at all!!! However I did add a full skid plate to the bike early on. One of my friends had a stick tear some of the wire harness and that got me to look at it. The bottom of the Rancher is pretty wide open. The other thing is to have you or your dealer put de-electric grease on the shifting sensors once a year.(located near engine). This has been my experience.

Why are you concerned about having problems? No matter what you might read about in Forums cars, boats etc. you name it you will find some negative stuff about it. That's not saying it's not true but remember people as a rule will more likely complain about something before they would say something positive. We have a 2001 Rancher ES with several hundreds of kilometers on it and it's been nothing but great! I talked to several dealers about the ES system before we bought and this was a typical answer "sold 300 2000 Rancher ES ATVs and had only a couple come in for ES problems, usually a sensor" Man that is a small percentage! So enjoy what is a great ATV and don't worry about something that may never be an issue.

I agree with plumker, why go into it expecting problems, and if you are why buy an ES. I have had absolutely flawless performance from mine.

One of the main reasons I made my final choice on the Es was that the digital dash only came with the ES models and wasnt about to pay more for the Foreman S.I rode my brother in laws TRX 250 with manual shift and never quite knew what gear I was in,kind of a control freak that way.

I got one from PRM-ATV.com they advertise in dirt wheels. High lifter has them and they for sure have a web site.
They are about $100 and take about an hour to attach. The PRM had a drain hole for oil and the front diff. and had recessed boltheads. Don't know much about the Highlifter offering. They make some noise when something hits them but it's great piece of mind.

the floorboards alone are worth the extra money. I love mine, best of luck to you with yours.

We have 800 miles on our Rancher & no ESP problems. We have ridden in mud, water, dust, & the only thing missing is snow. No problems.
