Totaled 03 Scrambler 500 H.O.

Well it happened. I was riding at Wayne national forest and had pulled over to let some bikes pass coming the other direction. The last guy came around on a huge utility quad and clipped me as he passed. This sent me and the bike over the edge of the hill where I had pulled off. The bike barrel rolled the whole way down the hill then slammed into a huge oak tree. It bent the right footboard where it mounts to the frame, steering stem, the frame where the steering stem mounts, the rear axle, and the right cv shaft, bar mounts, and snapped the front plastics. The estimate to get it fixed is 3,300 and the insurance company said its a total loss and will give me 3700. My question is do I buy the bike back off of the insurance company for 900 and part it out? Or do I just let them take it and take my money? As you can see in my sig. my quad had allot of aftermarket parts on it. I'm going miss that thing. What do you guys suggest I do?

I agree with ftwflh. You should take the performance parts off your quad and then let the insurance company have the rest of the quad. It seems to me that the insurance company is only giving you the value of the base/stock quad. Also, was this your insurance company or the baffoon who clipped you when you were being polite? If it the baffoon's insurance company you have more bargaing power and they should pay for replacement of everything you have on your, now bashed, quad. If it is your insurance and you insured the quad at stock/base level go on back to the first suggestion. I don't think the insurance company would be put off if you get back your performance mods that aren't beat up. They are probably going to send it to a junkyard. Hope it goes well for you.

He kept going. My friends were with me, but since I went down the hill with the bike they came to make sure I was ok instead of going after the guy. It just makes me sick that I have to get rid of it. After the beating it took, I flipped it back over on its wheels and it started first try. And it rode fine all the way back to camp. Thanks for the advice so far. Any other opinions?

Nice of that person to make sure you were OK. What's wrong with some people? Did he/she realize what had happened? Sounds like you didn't get hurt? Bummer about your machine. Agree with ftwflh & Moose, take what's salvageable.

I ride WNF quite a bit. There are definately some idiots that ride there. Sorry to hear bout your quad. At least your okay. I think I would have been cruising arond the rest of the day looking for a ute with a smashed front end. I know theres lots of places they could run too there. I have a buddy that rides with us that refuses to where a helmet, which is really stupid in the first place but I tell him all the time, you never know what idiot is coming around the next corner.
For those that don't live in Ohio, Wayne is a large trail system with for the most part one lane trails with two way traffic and lots of curves you can't see around and these idiots just fly around this place like they don't care who's around the corner. The guys that ride the dirt bikes there are the worst. Good luck and be safe!

I would think about parting it out. The motor and clutches should bring over $1000 on ebay. That leaves a whole lot of other things to sell for more money. Just note that it will take some work on your part.
