Gorilla Winch on Sportsman Upside Down & Inside Out
#1
When I finished installing a Gorilla 3000# winch on my Sportsman 450, I was happy the winch turned but in on the switch is out and out is in.
This winch mounts upside down using the model specific mount I received with the winch. So the cable is feeding over the top of the spool. I assume default is coming from the bottom.
It seems my simple, but not immediately obvious to me, solution is to pull the length of the cable out and then wind it in pressing the "in" side of my toggle.
There isn't a problem with that is there?

Yes I knew that. I lived on a sailboat in Mexico for 13 years. One of the many things I learned about 12 volt systems was to keep connections properly matched red-red etc. I'd rather mark the switch somehow.

Well here's one for ya. I just installed the same winch on my new 700 twin and noticed the same thing with the switch, in is out and vice versa.
So I freespooled the cable off and was winding it back on the spool and happened to touch the steel cable to the winch mount and sparks started flying. Got out the voltmeter and sure enough there is 12 volts on the winch cable when the switch is to the "in" position.
I've sent an email to Gorilla and am waiting for a response......
