blaster troubles
#1
Hey Guys! I've got a problem with my '96 blaster. I can't get the thing to start unless I pour a little gas its the cylinder. But when I do, it starts up and will ilde. After its warm, though, it'll start first kick, but WILL NOT idle at all. I recently did a topside rebuild on it and the new piston probably has 2-3 hours on it. After warming up, the bike is awfull slow to get to its powerband but when it does, it pulls great. This is my first 2-stroke so I don't know if I just have to deal with the delay in power. The bike will run good when hot and in its powerband, well enough to pass on my cousin on his 300 EX. The engine guy told me to run a 320 main jet (I think that's what you call it {I'm not real good with carbs}) with the LRD Pipe. The bike also has an old (but clean) K&N wiht the airbox lid removed and an FMF pipe that needs a repacking badly. THe T.O.R.S. is still in place. The carb is a 26mm Mikuni. I used Exxon 93 and mix one small container of Castor 927 in five gallons. Please help, I like my bike, but this is frustratring me.

look at the jetting when we got our new pipe they sent us a 320 also it way big put a 260 in made a big differnce before it bogging bad then it would take off, now it just goes
we talked to the guy at a small shop put all our info in his computer and he was able to give a good starting point on the main jet and also the ckip on the end of the throttle cable

It sounds as though it doesn't have enough compression when cold. Could be the rings are not seated or there is a problem some where. (rings, piston, bore, head gasket, bottom end gasket, etc..) That would explain the hard starting when cold. The low power sounds like it could be running rich like truckboss mentioned.

You may have air leak such as a gasket or crank seal. i blew the base gasket on my blaster and it would either start on the first kick or take 20 kicks to get it started. Then when it was warm I was always fiddle with the idle screw to keep it idling. Also sometimes it would cut out or even bog in the midrange

Well guys, I solved the biggest problem. The guys at the shop downsized my main jet to a 290 or so amd also said my pilot jet was too big. I also had a vaccum leak behind the reed cage. I didn't put a gasket when I reuilt the motor because there wasn't one in the kit. We just used some gasket putty and now it runs fine. It still won't idle or start cold, though. The guy at the shop said that the thottle box adjustment for idle was shot, so I'll get the kit to eliminate it and hopefully both problems will be solved. Thank for the input!
