Anybody heard of Newstar?

O.K. I couldn't just let my son tool around on his BMS 150, so I decided to take the plunge. I sat on the BMS 250, but I'm a big guy and it was way too low. I looked at the Jetmoto that Raceway has on it's page, and the Newstar I bought is very similar. I basically paid the same price, and went with the Newstar because it was a green sticker ( I think the Jetmoto is too) but it's local to me so I have ready access to service if I need it. Otherwise, I probably would go with the Jetmoto.
Now, I've done some research, have found the Newstar on China Direct, but I can't find anything in print as far as quality. The guy I bought it from said it'll eat a BMS 250 for breakfast, and after riding both I agree. It's supposed to be a Honda 250 clone, and it sure scoots my big butt around quite nicely.
So anyone have experience with these? Any suggestions on manuals? (thanks Smb05 for the BMS 150 manual it's perfect)
Did I waste my $1950.00? Am I going to be working on it or riding it?
Thanks for any feedback, I'm the proud owner, but I'd like to find out a little more than I know now, and appeciate your opinions.
Best regards,
Dan .....

I looked up some of their (newstar) quads and they look pretty cool. They have larger models than most (300-320cc sport models). They look like they are designed well, but you really have to judge the quality in person. It is my understanding that most of these quads are slightly upgraded (here and there) models common to only a few chinese manufacturers. I have a feeling that many of the mechanical items are very similar or identical to other chinese quads. From what I hear, the engines are usually honda/yamaha nockoff designs and are actually pretty reliable. If you have a local dealer that you trust and he can fix it if necessary and get you parts when you need them, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just have fun & hope for the best. It is a pretty obscure brand though. I don't find much about it on the internet when I search.
The only advice I would have is to do regular inspections (before rides) for loose bolts and broken/missing/wearing parts as I've heard some of the materials used in chinese quads aren't the best. This is just a preventative measure. It's good to catch something before it's a big problem or becomes a safety concern.

BiggDaddyTx got a CoolSport 250 and they look a lot alike...

I'm 6'1" and 240lb and when I ride it I get a lot of hand pressure on the bars... I'm thinking going to taller bars will fix that or make a spacer to put in between the bars and the steering shaft would work... I hope the cables have some slack in them to handle the added height... The sound is great... Top gear is really too high to do anything with unless you?re just flat out flying... I'm not too happy with the front shocks either... They feel a little hard and the front wants to bounce a little on you around 30 or so but there are adjusters that can be played with that may help... Over all it's a good bike for us bigger folks... Hmm, they do look alot alike. Thanks for all the feedback, and I think I might be o.k. after all. i do like to wrench, so maintenance isn't a problem. As for choosing this vs. a Jetmoto, it was logistics for me more than anything. I live in a somewhat sparsely poulated area, and the major mfg's/dealers are quite a road trip for me. So having the retailer about 2 mins from my house is what sealed the deal for me.
I was also wondering if these are "air" shocks or require nitrogen. This looks identical to the Honda 250r and I would like to know how these should be serviced. Thanks again.....

I think they are nitrogen filled shocks... But they are sealed... The only thing they have is a screw that you can turn from Hard to Soft... DiggBaddyTx and I haven?t got to play with his bike that much with the weather the way it has been in Houston... He comes back from the UK Friday and this weekend (Sunday) maybe a good day to ride... (I HOPE)

Thanks Drifter. Mine are actually adjustable, they have a schrader valve. I found a place near me that will re-fill them for $15. I think that's pretty good.
Have fun riding, I'll be out Saturady sucking dust by Johnson Valley in the High Desert. Take care and ride safe.
