05 650 v2 oil leak
#1
I just bought a 650 v2 with 535 miles on it. It has an oil leak at the rear cam cover to head, just behind and above the spark plug.
Anyhow, has anyone had one off? Does not look too bad to do, figured I will adjust the valves and clean out and lube the choke cables
while I'm there....yeah mine sticks too, but turn it on when shutting off machine.

Yes, I had exactly the same leak, rear cylinder. Very small, but oil would accumulate over time. In my presence my dealer tightened the head. The leak stopped. I was concerned tightening may only be a temporary fix because there is no gasket between the head and head cap. Bike only had 150 miles. Even though tightening stopped the leak my dealer said he'd tear it down if I wanted because of the leak. Together we decided the best course of action was to take it apart. Good thing we did. The Cam cover, head, and cam were significantly scarred and needed replacement. The only thing we could think that would cause this was perhaps the engine was not properly flushed at build and a small piece of metal debris remained inside the engine and ended up at the cam. There was no noise indicating there might be a problem, just the leak. Be advised there is very little room to work on the rear cylinder. These engines are crate engines from Kawi. AC just installs them in their machines. Warranty took care of it and I've had no problems since. About 1,200 miles on the bike so far. FYI, my machine was a very early '06, purchased in July of '05.

Rear cover took me 2 hours to do, had to remove rear engine mount bolt and partially remove front one, allowing the engine to tip to the right.
Two 1/2" holes needed to be drilled in the cross plate under the seat, directly above the far left rocker cover bolts, enabling their removal.
Rocker cover slipped out the right side, silicone removed with a razor blade, dried with brake cleaner, I used GM's grey silicone, called Assembly Adhesive,
I used it because I know it works. Reassemble, torque to spec's, I let it sit over night, in the morning, no leak. Just thought I'd post it incase someone had the same leak.
