Default 1996 TRX300FW Brake Shoe Removal Replace

would someone please give me some quick pointers on how to get to the rear brake shoes on the TRX300FW? I am usually pretty handy at these things but I cannot figure out how to get the brake drum cover off. its removel is being prevented by those two large nuts on the shaft and a dust cover of some sort that is between those nuts and the drum cover.

i have the wheel and the wheel hub off. i've removed the 6 (maybe it was 7) bolts that hold the drum cover to the brake housing. i backed those two large nuts off as far as they will go and nothing. i can get the cover to pull away from the housing about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. i even tried removing the 4 bolts that hold the housing to the swingarm but that didn't do much to move anything. do i have to completely disassemble the rear end, swingarm and all, to get the brake shoes out or am i completely missing a bolt or two that removes that brake-side shaft???

the shoes are dragging and i suspect the PO has been in a lot of mud and water and there is junk built up in there.

Default 1996 TRX300FW Brake Shoe Removal Replace

just wanted to say thanks for nothing. i can't decide if you all are A) to stuck up to speak to a newbie with a real question B) to egotistical to bother wasting your time aswering a question on an 11 year old machine or C) just plain don't know how to do your own work. i figured it out like i should have done in the first place. i also noticed that the read count doubled since i replied to myself a few hours ago. does that mean that there are 20 or so others out there who are fishing for the same answer and are afraid to ask or maybe have asked and no one would help them either. i really doubt it. but its possible.

i also noticed that some fella asks how to keep his quad from getting stolen. i know that they say that there are no silly questions but it seems like if there is a simple question that one is right up there next to it. 5 of the answers were lock it with a chain. duh. and there was the ever so great advice of 'if they want it bad enough they will get it anyways'. then you all went around about whether or not an unbreakable lock could be broken. to who ever that guy is who asked the question; i think i have but i didn't intend to offend you. i only meant to point out that for days no one has even mentioned a sniglet of a response at my question but someone asks a simple question with 1 or 2 remotely possible answers and the fish flock to it like its feeding time with their two cents.

i assume i've pissed and moaned enough. good day and good luck .

Default Rear brake drum disassembly 2005 Honda trx350

Hey,

I'm in the process of taking apart some back brakes on a quad and I've got it to the point where I've taken the wheel hub off and the outer cover of the drum. What do I need to remove to take the drum off of the axle? You say that you have figured it out on your quad. Can you help a brother out?

Thanks!

use a rubber mallet and give it a good whack, which will knock it loose if it was corroded on

What advice are you looking for? I have rebuilt the brakes on my 1995 TRX300 several times
