BRP 800 max no-start problem
#1
I have a problem (no-start condition) on a brand new 800 max equiped with D.E.S.S. Originally it showed a "invalid key" message and even I fixed this problem, the engine will not start. The starter motor is OK and the instrument cluster shows the "check engine" message. Since I can't take it to the dealer (I live outside the US/Canada), I cannot have the computer scanned or reseted. Any suggestions?

The Outy is one quad that requires a dealer for situations such as yours.
There are dealers all over the world. Wish I could help you more. If you can't load it up and haul it to a dealer relatively close to you, come back, and I'll talk to a couple of online dealers on another forum. Do you have paperwork on it?
What was the situation when you first rode it? Did it start and run ok then?

This atv was taken to my shop and it has never run (the odometer shows 0.1 km). It was bought by a friend of mine, (I'm not sure where he bought it), and since he had no one to go to, he brought it here, although my business is an automotive repair facility, not atv's, motorcycles or whatsoever.
As far as I?m concerned, there is no Canam delaer in Mexico (we live in Monterrey, 2 hr. drive to the border) and he's trying to avoid taking it back to the US for repair, because of all the trouble that it would mean.
When he first took it in, the "check engine" and the "invalid key" message would appear in th LCD display. After a thorough check, I noticed that the chip in the key has polarity (the multimeter only reads when the probes are in the correct position), so I gave it a try switching the two wires that connect to the key tip, and the "invalid key" message disappeared, but the "check engine" is still there, and the engine won't start.
There's spark at the plugs, and if you throw some gas through the throttle body and short the starter, the engine will run for a little while, so evidently, for some reason, the engine control module is disabling the injectors and the starter motor.
I know that the first thing to do is to scan the computer, but there is no one here that has the scanner, so I'm trying to find a way around it.
As far as you know, is there a shop manual available from the dealer? It would help a lot to have a reference since I'm working blindfolded here!
Thanks a lot .
