I found a 2005 Yamaha Kodiak 400 Auto 4X4 for $3999. The machine is at a dealer and has 4.6 miles on it. It is being sold as new even though it is somewhat scuffed up and there is a dent in the front guard grill. Yamaha is currently offering an extended warranty incentive. If you purchase the warranty and don't use it during the duration of eligiblity, you get your money back...seems to me as though they figure you will need to use your warranty. I've never owned an ATV, but one sure would come in handy for ice fishing if the snow isn't too deep, and some hunting trips (no plans of doing anything that may result in requiring a helper monkey). The Polaris Hawkeye seems nice, but is much smaller. I'm 5' 10" and pushing 185. The Kodiak isn't much larger, but has 102 more cc's than the Hawkeye. I don't want to spend anymore than $5000 w/ tax and can't mentally afford buying used. I try to be Mr. Buy American, but I recently upgraded my outboard and purchased a Honda. The quality is outstanding, and I realize that the Kodiak is assembled in Georgia. The Honda Rancher 350 4X4 is about $450 more, has less power, and does not have IRS. Any suggestions would be appeciated.

The price they are asking is the suggested price from KBB. I would offer them less. If they are selling it as new, its an 05, two model years old already, plus already has a ding in it. (which might actually be a good thing, it has broken the ice on scratches/dings already, but still)
Offer them 3400, see what happens. I wouldn't pay full retail on it since its 2 years old, even though its new. I would also ask them to change all the fluids since they are selling it as new, and I'm guessing all your fluids (oil, gear) has been sitting in it since 05, which is really 04.. I could be wrong.

There is probably some fine print..all service work must be done at dealership and so on, to recieve the warentee rebate. Youll easily spend enough for them to refund, or they will 'find' a problem and fix it free under warentee. Ask the dealer what the fine print is.
