amsteel winch rope
#1
Is anybody using this? how do you like it? I am getting my winch in the mail soon and I think its a good idea to change out the steel cable to synthetic rope - sound safer and easier. Any opinions? I have seen alot of reviews on the outdoor channel and the testers liked it (but they were prob paid to say that) I want real world opinions
THANKS

I've use my winch with the stock cable on it (steel?) about a half dozen times. Today I pulled myself out of the snow when I got in too deep. Haven't had a problem yet and it pulls strong. My thought would be to keep the synthetic as a backup and install it when needed. It is less likely to kink up on you but I'm not sure how it would stand up to abrasive surfaces.

Brutus i have it on mine and i love it.It is easier to use than the cable and a lot safer it dosnt take as much effort to respool it on the drum and it wont kink and twist,You can use your bare hands to handle the rope to,and it can be hooked back to itself with no damage.I also bought a special fairlead so it dosnt get frayed.

I put it on our 500 and 700 last year and it's holding up great. We had no problems with the regular cable but with the amount of use the winches get from my son and his buddies swamping ever time their out it was more of a saftey thing. No frayed strands to stab them and I don't have to worry about them crushing the cable do to overlapping when they wind it back up.After seeing the tests when they pulled both the cable and the amsteel blue tight then cut them loose it was an easy choice(no back lash). My buddy was so impressed after seeing it he put it on both his 6 wheelers.Hope this helps

Just to clarify one thing about my last post--My son and his buddies are around the age of 14 and do things out of the norm to their quads in the swamps so the only reason I went to the amsteel was for safety reasons only. The stoared energy in a cable is extreme and I can't be there to make certain they are setting up their riggings correctly.
