Aeen performance scrambler
#1
Hey guys i own a 99 scrambler 400 4x4 and i want to make this thing able to keep up with a renegade 800....i have never had the motor rebuilt and was wondering if i should do this before i start building.....Do you think a stage 3 performance package that produces 61 hp will be enough? I want to put a weisco in it if this will help also but i dont want to go to the big bore stages. I also want it to still be capable for trails and stuff will this do?

That would definatly wake it up & make it haul the mail, but in my opinion & prior experiences any 2-stroke that is built that far and are "on the edge" generally have HUGE reliability issues. Your coin man, but I'd just pipe it,re-jet & re-clutch. If you want, an overbore of .040 & high compression piston would help too, but then high octane or race gas is needed, making long trail trips difficult.

thanks a lot man what about .20 bore on a weisco would i need race gas or could i use premium...also should i rebuild it before doing all this...i want about 55-60 hp just enough to spank some *** and still be reliable

a few things, a .20 overbore won't do all that much i've had it done cause my motor seized and theres no real noticable difference . You Should Most Definitly rebuild before you start tuning because the stock polaris piston is crap, ask anyone, the skirt cracks and breaks. So that is a must! From what I've heard you might need a girdle kit if you go high compression, big bore or porting. That will really help reliability. I've heard that the scrambler is still reliable when you have the stuff done so you should still be able to do trails. EVEN after all that you still might not beat a renegage in the top end, but off the drop for sure!

Well the overbore is your choice. .020 would leave lots of room for future rebuilds, .040 would leave room for 60,80 & 1mm before re-sleeving. However one major bang & it wouldn't matter.
The fuel requirement is dependant on compression & not bore size.

usually a .20 overbore is for once you've blown up its to perfect the cylinders imperfections. What would the cc be if originally it was 380 stock right than up to a .20 over.?.
By the way Duneaholic ......SWEET bikes are they 4x4s, and there still reliable thats sweet! how fast do they go and how fats do they get there

They are 398cc I believe. Every .010 roughly adds 4.5cc This is why I orignally posted that a .040 overbore is a good place to start. .040 gives you 416cc .080 gives 434cc & 1mm over is the "440 kit" that is raved about.
.080 would give a great boost, but it's the max bore on the stock sleeve. 440's are re-sleeved. Like i said before, it's up to you whether or not to get a high dome piston for more compression.

for a lesser money spend but do still have good quality products,go for RCR,he custom made all his stuff and it work, for if you don't mind and want to still put dust on the bomb's go for HPD,those stuff work amazing and the maintenances is pretty low,and reliability is BETTER than stock,a pwk 39 on those thing with a wiseco piston last as long a magnum 425 motor....
