07 efi sportsman break-in period
#1
Can anybody tell me honestly what the break-in period is for a new sportsman? I just bought my new one. Dealer told me to run 3 tanks gas through it before any serios 4-wheeling, or Heavy pulling. Does anyone have any thoughts about this. This is my first 4-wheeler and I want to make sure it lasts a long time

The best way to breakin an engine is to drive it normally and beat it up a little. Let the engine create heat and wear properly. I read a complete article on engine breakin but forgot the site. I would ride normal and beat it a little but not too much. avoid full throttle for long periods of time. I wouldnt go towing 1500 lbs right yet but definaltly hammer down some.

my dealer told me to ride like I am going to always ride it but avoid pulling anything and full throttle for a long period for the first 20 hours. He builds engines and he said that the cyliners are better made (smoother) than they used to be and it's better if you run em hard. Just like sash said.

actually I just rememerd when I brought my quad in for a "check up" he said I must have broken it in perfect because my 450 sounded better than any 500 he ever heard. How he knows from that I will never know but like I said he build engines so I guess he knows. I rode it hard just like he said to do

You and I are in the same boat, Lineman, and on the same 4-wheeler.
I was wondering about this also, but the clutch noise thing had my attention.
Good post and thanks for the replies, guys.

basicly dont hold it at any rpm for long periods of time or full throttle for very long and drive it normally. everyone does it a little differnt but as long as you dont beat the hell out it i think you would be fine.
