I have a 95 polaris 400l. Just getting it ready for a spring run. Charged the battery (its new last year) and went to start it up, and it will not turn the engine over...you can just hear the starter whining....(not clicking) Somebody said its the bendix not engaging? any ideas on a quick fix...I tried the light tap on the starter with the hammer trick...no luck..
It pulls starts just fine, and runs mint. just need the electric start to go...any ideas out there?

Do you have a pull starter? If so, give that a try. If not, you'll have to take a apart the starter (or buy a new one) and check the bendex. That sounds like your problem. Maybe the brushed too. They make starter rebuild kits as well.

 

the pull starts works fine...I guess i have to take the starter apart next....
