Clutch slipping JM125 - smells burnt...
#1
Hi, looking for some info/advice here.. I got two JM atv's from raceway for the kids for Christmas, couldn't be happier with the bikes. Got the 110 and the 125. My daughter had some friends over this weekend, and they doubled up on the the 125. The clutch started slipping, and if I smell the oil now it smells burnt. I think a couple of the girls who didn't know anything about shifting it got it in high gear going up a hill and just kept bogging it down. Can the clutch be adjusted at all, or does it just have to be replaced. How do you check/adjust the clutch on these? I changed the oil before this weekend on both bikes, only the 125 is having a problem. Any tips appreciated...

Ouch. I feel for you man. I would start with changing the oil (if I understand that you changed it before they messed it up.)
Is it making any grinding sounds or anything, or just slipping? Does it ever stick into gear at all (ie, you can tell it's starting in first and not second?)
I'm sure John or someone will chime in with more useful info. I believe the semi-auto trannies have a spring loaded clutch, but I could be wrong. You might want to try opening it up and see if the springs are too loose.

No grinding, no noise at all, just the engine rev's and the bike slowly starts to move... I'll change to oil again, but I've not opened one of these up before. I'll give John a call tomorrow if I have time.... Thanks!

If you give a call in when you are with the ATV we can try to adjust it with you.
