02 500 H.O. can u remove the cam with out taking off the head?

Default 02 500 H.O. can u remove the cam with out taking off the head?

HI can anyone tell me if u can remove the cam form and 02 500 H.O. without taking off the head.Looks to me like u can but shop tells me i gotta take off the head so i wanted to ask and see if anyone knew so ill know if they are just tring to sell me one and i dont need it. I dont wanna buy it if i dont need it and dont wanna go to all the trouble of taking off the head if i dont need to.

yes you can. i recently bought and installed the WEB cam in my 02 scrammy 500. all you have to do is remove the valve cover and then the cam sprocket. the head stays put. really a piece of cake. make sure you have a manual tho...

Thax for the info save me money and time. and I do have a manual.I looked in the manual and it showed the head still being on but the guy at the shop i called said had to remove it thats why i was trying to find out for sure so i didnt buy or take stuff off that i didnt need to.Thax again for the help.

just make sure that when u reinstall the cam that u time it right, bent valves aren't very much fun

yeah i know bent valves aren't fun had to deal with them on alot of cars from timeing belts breaking.I know how to time it.I also have a service manual so should be alright now just gotta get the parts.

with a new cam youre gonna want to check your valve clearances, and its a good idea to replace rockerarms. I just did my second complete top end job on my 96 sp. the first time i only replaced the exaust rocker arm and now the intake lobes wore off....

I'll cheak the valve clearances.IM planing on replaceing the the cam and all 3 rockerarms for the reason that i dont want the old intake rockers to tear up the new cam.Im also gonna replace the rockerarm shaft if its worn at all.
