400ex stalls in water

Default 400ex stalls in water

I have a 400ex and every time i ride in very deep water it stalls out, any advice?

I read on one page to relocate the carb vent hose does this work?

Try putting some dielectric gel on the spark plug boot.

You should be able to pick up a small tube at Auto Zone or any parts store.

Also, when you go in the deep water, is it getting into the airbox? You could put a snorkel on the intake. But I don't think I've ever seen a sport with a snorkel.

the gel wont effect the spark or cause it to jump spark will it?

No, it will keep the water out of the plug wire, and keep it from shorting the spark out.

what about the carb vent hose does anybody have any info on that? does it really work/ and where do you relocate it to?

how deep of water are you crossing if your worried about the carb vent hose? i'd say relocate it to the air box.

the water is about 3/4 up on the tires but it is cutting out real bad, would the vent hose cause that?

The carb vent hose should have a one way valve on it if I'm not mistaken. So getting water back through it would be unlikely.

Now, the line you're looking at, is it on the bottom of the carb? If so, that is just the carb drain line. The vent line should be up by the airbox.

it may be the drain hose im seeing does it have a check valve also?
