What kind of oil should I put in the crankcase of a 1997 Blaster?
#1
Hi there. I have a question about my 1997 Yamaha Blaster. What kind of oil is best to put into the crankcase? I think I will drain it all out and put new oil in it but im not sure which kind I need?
So what kind of oil does the crankcase use on a 1997 Yamaha Blaster?
Thanks for the help.

Hey I just recently bought a 2003 yamaha blaster and i need to know the same thing....Anyways Iam about 3 days from having mine back running....I was wanting you to be aware of the pre-mix 2 strroke oil jug....I run mine for two weeks i had it until it started running really badly....Ask a mechanic and he said check the oil injectors there bad t stop up...Sure enough i took the injector apart it was stoped up... I fixed it but i was a little late finding out soo now iam rebuilding the top end because of it...My advise would be to block it off and premix it rich or lean which every u prefer ...Thought it may be helpful...IAm out Rick

i just changed my oil today 10w 30 is great for the average weather i just used yamalube.i ran the blaster for about 5-8 min so the oil would warm up and the i took off the oil drain plug and took off the oil refill cap and it drained only for a few min then i put the oil drain plug back on and filled up the crankcase with 650cc of oil but if your doing an engine overhaul then put 700cc in it 650 is only if your doing the routine oil change good luck hope this helps

I ran bel-ray gear saver in mine. I don't know if it was any better of a product than regular oil but I really didn't have any issues with it. I'm sure that you can buy 10w-30 for cheaper.

This may sound crazy, but the racers around here run transmission fluid in their transmissions. The crank bearings on a Blaster are lubed by the oil in the gas, so the other oil is only lubing the transmission. In my old 2-strokes I have ran 10W30 oil and I have also ran B&M Trickshift (not at the same time of course) and I didnt notice any difference. The Trickshift was just a lot more expensive.
