Default ATC 70... No Spark

I have a 1984 ATC 70. Hasn't been run in 3 or 4 years & my dad let it sit outside part of that time. I'm starting to restore it.

I'm not getting any spark. I've tried more than 1 brand new plug. I've stuck a screwdriver in the end if the plug wire & held on. Nothing.

I disconnected the ground wire of the ignition switch to make sure it wasn't grounded out.

Are the points my most likely problem? Are any special tools required to change them? Flywheel puller, etc?

Is there a "cost effective way to change over to a CDI ignition?

Thanks.

They sell the CDI setup on Ebay for like $100 I hear it wakes the bike up and it runs a lot better. I would just put some points in it all you need is a fly wheel puller.

You should make sure the bike is wired up right. You can get wiring diagrams from www.3wheelerworld.com. If you look and the wires are done right, then it may be problems with the CDI, or spark advancer or some component like that, however I don't think its common for parts like that to just give out, unless tampered with. I think you should check the wiring over.

Check your condenser, points, coil, and make sure the grounding wire is in its hole.

check your plug cap. if it is cracked or old it could be bad, had the same problem on an 91 lt250, it was just the plug cap lots of headaches for a $5.00 part

A great place for ATC parts is ( dratv.stores.yahoo.net )
By the way I'm in the market for a Honda ATC 70 if you want to get rid of it. :-)
