i have received a 1996 400 sportsman from my father. nothing has been done to the motor or clutches since he bought it. i think that there is around 2000 miles on it. anyone have some tips on tuning this thing? any clutching tips? any info, good or bad on this machine would be great!!!

Great machines but do take the topend apart and redo it with a Wiesco piston because the stock piston WILL break sooner or later.
Once you get it dependable then you can mod it up.I would recomend Trail porting while you have the jug off,an Aaen Torquer pipe and silencer,UNI filter,Boysen Power Reeds or Rad Valve. On clutching before a pipe add a Polaris white primary spring and Aaen blue secondary spring. After a pipe go with Aaen green primary and step up the clutch weights S55s.This will get you a 400 4x4 that the 700-up wont believe.
