I have found the BALL-JOINTS for my 1987 & 1988 250 TrailBoss 4X4 --- Are "NO" LONGER availible ???? [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif[/img]


Anyone know of a source or a modification to resolve this ???

Try this part number it is for an 88 2x4 but crosses over to newer 4x4s should fit yours too.7080364

 

I am having the same problem with finding a ball joint for my 1987 4X4. Were you able to come up with a solution?

 

No luck so far.

I have a 1987 and a 1988 4X4 250 trail boss'es.

The Ball Joints ' ftwflh ' refered to are the newer style -- like a automobile balljoint -- they will not work for our machines[img]i/expressions/brokenheart.gif[/img].


Some have suggested trying " HINE JOINTS " .


I was thinking of trying to make something that would hold the new style in a piece like the ones on our present system.

I had sent an email also to the Polaris factory regaqrding the discontinued part and what to do - and any support or help from them ------ but they never answered it !!

So I to was hoping someone would have a good solution to our problem...

Guess they think we should just pony up and buy new machines.

The ball joint looks very similar to a tie rod for steering. Have you tried going to bearing suppliers and seeing if they can match anything up? I've looked on the web and have seen some that look close but ususally not enough information to tell for sure.

 

Hate to hijack your post, but have either of you ever assembled/dissasembled your pull start. I've got a bike like yours, and I got my pull start apart and can't figure out how to put it back together.. sorry I can't help on the ball joints

 

Have you tried Bikebandit.com they have some ball joints listed

I never have disassenbeled my recoil starter but my Clymer manual for the machine has pretty good instructions and illustraions for doing it. If you don't have one, it's a good investment.

 

Thanks, don't have one, usually just look at the parts breakout on the bikebandit site, and can figure it out from there. Maybe it's time to get a clymer. I get it back together, it works for about 2-3 pulls then quits. There's a friction spring that works between the spring case and the guide ratchet and I can't quite figure out how it's suppose to work, but thanks for the clymer tip.

Do the 89 ball joints not fit the 88's
