I need some valid info on where to begin with this problem... i can take a large screwdriver and tap the longest linkage either at the rear or the shifter and then it will once again shift from high to low. it is an automatic 4 X 4.

please enlighten me on what to do.

i thought maybe the linkage itself needs to be adjusted with the bolts on the linkage itself....????

if you mean just the linkage bar..... i recommend replacing the linkage-- and putting new rod ends on all the linkages.

or is it internal to the tranny?

Check the adjustment first. Make sure the bellcranks aren't stripped. The aluminum pieces that bolt to the gear shift linkage and the shift shafts. Make sure the frame rail that the gear selector bolts to isn't broken at the top or bottom(it runs at an angle from the rear of the machine towards the front, between the upper and lower main frame rails)
